Agassiz Alpacas is a full-time alpaca farm beginning in 1999 with two huacaya females and growing to approximately twenty alpacas. We focus on quality, not quantity, raising premium breeding stock. By using strong proven Peruvian and Bolivian bloodlines we are creating alpacas with excellent fiber, conformation and disposition. Our stock is primarily white and light fawn in color. With knowledge gained from a M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics, Jeff develops breeding plans, marketing strategies and management decisions for the farm.
The farm is located on 160 acres of table-flat fertile farmland in south-central Manitoba which has been in the family for over 100 years. The farm is situated 60 miles south-west of Winnipeg and 30 miles north of the US border. The name is derived from Lake Agassiz, a glacial lake, which covered the area during the Pleistocene Age and drained leaving behind what is known today as the Red River Valley.
Agassiz Alpacas is a member of AOBA, ARI, CABA (Canadian Alpaca Breeders Association) and CLLA (Canadian Llama and Alpaca Association).
